Grutto is on a mission to transform the meat industry - our vision is a healthy, sustainable and waste-free meat sector, providing quality, grass-fed meat direct from the farmer, in contrast to the hormone-pumped factory-farmed mass meat industry that has become so prevalent today. Grutto wants to change this, by going back to natural, ethical and sustainable ways of producing meat.
And this is how we do it
Our Manifesto
Transparency
We make sure you know exactly where your meat is sourced from.
When we say transparency we mean it. In addition to the farmers, you will be able to trace our butchers and processors via our website
After placing your order with us, we'll keep you informed every step of the way. From slaughter to delivery
With every package we sell you will find information about the breed of the animal and from which farmer you are buying
Your meat package has a number, for instance the ear tag of each cow or the lot number of a chicken
Where does your meat actually come from?
Our farmers take good care of their animals and environment. Each in their own way
How important is eating animals to our bodies?
Eliminating meat from your diet does more harm than good
In order for our bodies to function properly we need protein. The best way of making sure we get the right intake is by including meat and fish into our diet
Vitamins and minerals like iron and B12 are best retrieved from meat and fish
A 114gr steak = ADH B12
When following a vegetarian diet you will need to consume at least double the amount of calories in order to replace lost nutrients like protein
Worldwide, 1 in 4 people are anaemic, a pure plant-based diet would mean a deficiency of iron and B12 resulting in hair loss, fatigue and a deteriorated immune system
At Grutto we strive for a world where both people and nature can be healthy. We hope you will join us
Grazers also convert grass into food suitable for humans, with a lot of nutritional value
Grazers make for healthy soil by grazing and fertilizing so that more carbon can be stored underground. Which offers part solution to the climate change problem
Sustainable agriculture restores all forms of life and this biodiversity restores the soil
This constitutes a complex cycle in which that what is waste for the one is food for the other
In addition to grazing, grassland requires all kinds of plants, grazers, birds, bacteria and fungi
Just like us humans, grassland needs just the right amount of stress, not too much and not too little, a balance must be found between overgrazing and a lack of grazing
Without all that life, the soil is destroyed and many chemicals are needed for that soil to produce. Ultimately this leads to higher mortality rates in all areas and climate change problems
Together making a way to sustainable food production
Besides producing our food, farmers the ones who manage the land for humans, animals and plants
That's why we will only ever choose to work with farmers who practice sustainable farming
We believe in the change taking place in agriculture, which enables restoration of natures biodiversity in order for it to be able store CO2 and nitrogen as it is supposed to
How can we support our farmers in this transition while still producing our food ?
By ensuring our farmers receive a fair price so that they are given the opportunity to practice sustainable farming
We put our farmers in touch with experts to accelerate the transition to sustainable agriculture
Support our farmers in the transition to sustainable agriculture
