Steven and his wife Sarah are third-generation farmers. Together with their family, they run Rosamondford farm, rearing poultry as well as managing more than 30 acres of barley. Rosamondford Farm is located in the heart of East Devon, just a few miles from Exeter. It has been in the Slade family for more than 60 years.
The Slades started rearing turkeys 30 years ago and have gradually built up the numbers from 50 to 20,000 turkeys and chickens. Their core aim is to supply an outstandingly good-quality, succulent turkey for our Christmas dinners.
All their birds are raised from day-old chicks, fed on a simple diet of wheat and vegetables, free from additives and growth promoters. The birds have a long, happy and active life; free to roam the paddocks during the day and sleep overnight in a comfortable, warm barn with plenty of space to roost.
The Slades raise free range Bronzes, a beautiful, slow-growing variety, known for its deliciously juicy meat and fine flavour. Reared for at least 24 weeks, the turkeys are specially bred for traditional flavour, not size. And there is no need to worry about hormones, antibiotics or other chemicals – the turkeys are completely natural and additive free. They are dry plucked and hand finished to avoiding bruising or marking the bird, and delivered fully prepared for the oven.
