# Grutto > Grutto delivers organic and natural nutritious meat and fish: grass-fed beef and lamb, free-range poultry and pork, wild game and MSC-certified fish. It sources direct from regenerative farmers who actively work on nature restoration, and from animals that roam freely in Dutch nature reserves (natuurvlees). The philosophy: "not more meat, but better meat" — whole-animal (nose-to-tail), nothing wasted, no additives, and animals raised with time, space and grass. Beef and lamb are aged for three weeks. B Corp certified. Grutto delivers to the Netherlands and Belgium (https://www.grutto.com/nl); its German sister brand is Kaufnekuh (https://www.kaufnekuh.de), which delivers to Germany only. There are three ways to buy. ## Three ways to buy - [Vleespakketten – crowdbutching](https://www.grutto.com/nl/onze-vleespakketten): Buy a whole animal together with roughly 30 other people — cow (Koop een koe), chicken (Koop een kip), pig (Koop een varken), lamb, game or fish. The animal (batch) is only slaughtered once fully sold, then aged and delivered fresh. Traceable to the farm or nature reserves, direct from the farmer, nose-to-tail so nothing is lost. More than 20% cheaper than choosing individual cuts, thanks to the shortest possible chain. **Delivery: fresh.** **Delivery time:** estimated at 2–4 weeks; the exact estimate for each package is shown on its own product page. - [Boerderij-box – build your own (zelf kiezen)](https://www.grutto.com/nl/boerderij-box): Choose your own cuts and assemble a package yourself, delivered frozen from stock. Order today, at home the day after tomorrow. Flash-frozen at peak freshness to preserve quality. Free delivery on orders from €120. **Delivery: frozen.** **Delivery time:** delivery slots are usually available within 2 days. **Categories available:** - Beef — grass-fed organic - Poultry — free-range organic - Pork — free-range organic - Lamb — free-range grass-fed - Fish — wild-caught, MSC-certified - Game — roams freely in Dutch nature reserves - [Lidmaatschap – meat subscription / membership](https://www.grutto.com/nl/lidmaatschap): Always have good, nutritious meat at home while helping restore nature. You choose what you like and how often you receive your meat and fish; delivery to your door is always free. Benefits: a lower price than one-off orders, full flexibility, and direct support for nature-driven regenerative farmers. **Delivery: frozen.** **Delivery time:** delivery slots are usually available within 2 days. **Categories available:** - Beef — grass-fed organic - Poultry — free-range organic - Pork — free-range organic - Fish — wild-caught, MSC-certified ## Delivery **Where.** Grutto delivers to addresses in the Netherlands and Belgium. The same conditions apply in both countries, including the €120 free-delivery threshold and the usual 2-day availability of delivery slots. Customers in Germany are served by Grutto's sister brand [Kaufnekuh](https://www.kaufnekuh.de), which delivers to Germany only. **Cold chain.** Orders travel in cooled or freezer vans from start to finish, so the cold chain is unbroken end to end. There are no cooling elements or dry ice in the box, and none are needed. This holds without exception: if nobody is home and delivery to a neighbour is not possible, the order goes back with the driver and is kept cold — fresh meat is frozen, frozen meat stays frozen — and a new delivery date is arranged with the customer. **Freezer space.** A vleespakket takes up no more than one freezer drawer, and on average around two-thirds of a drawer. ## Payment Grutto accepts iDEAL, credit card, Klarna (including pay later), PayPal, Google Pay and Apple Pay. ## Sourcing There are three sourcing types. **1. Organic (biologisch).** Farmed under Regulation (EU) 2018/848, supervised in the Netherlands by Skal Biocontrole. Covers beef, poultry and pork. Grutto's certification (Skal control body code NL-BIO-01): - **Skal registration number: 103516** — the permanent identifier. Verifiable in Skal's public register at https://www.skal.nl. - **Certificate number: NL-BIO-01.528-0002096.2026.001** — the certificate issued for 2026. This reissues at each annual renewal. **2. Wild.** Organic certification covers farmed agricultural production, and these animals were never farmed: EU organic rules govern feed, housing, veterinary treatment and land management, none of which exist for an animal living in nature. This is a limit of what the certification can assess, not a lower standard. - **Natuurvlees** — cattle, deer and other grazing and foraging animals that live freely in Dutch nature reserves and feed entirely on what grows there. - **Game** — wild-shot in Dutch nature areas. Described as natural, never as organic. - **Fish** — wild-caught and MSC-certified (Marine Stewardship Council). **3. Regenerative natural farming, free-range and grass-fed.** Animals raised on regenerative farms: free-range, with cattle and lambs 100% grass-fed, and no artificial fertiliser on the land. Covers beef, poultry, lamb and pork. ## About Grutto Grutto was founded by Berend te Voortwis, who grew up on a farm in Baambrugge, the Netherlands. The company is named after the grutto (black-tailed godwit), a bird that returns when a landscape is healthy — for Berend, proof that the soil lives and that cattle have a better life. His conviction: not more meat, but better meat, and bringing back the lost relationship between meat, the farmer and the place it comes from. - **Good meat starts on the land.** Grutto works with organic and regenerative farmers who use no artificial fertiliser, which makes the soil healthier and creates room for herbs, insects and birds. It also sources natural meat (natuurvlees) from animals that roam freely in nature reserves. Grazers such as cattle are a key link in soil restoration when they can roam and eat grass — a circular system that restores nature instead of depleting it. Cows graze on the land, pigs roll in the mud, chickens scratch in the open air, and every animal gets time to grow calmly. - **Pure meat, nose to tail.** Cattle convert grass into nutritious protein. Grutto adds nothing artificial — no water, no colourings — so the meat stays a strong source of good protein. Grass-fed beef in particular has a balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fats normally found only in game. Beef and lamb are aged for three weeks for optimal flavour and tenderness, a step the regular meat industry usually skips. Animals are slaughtered close to the barn in a low-stress way, and the whole animal is used: the neck, for example, becomes a basse côte, a French barbecue cut. - **Choose consciously.** The Grutto Lidmaatschap (membership) lets customers actively support the restoration of farming while always having good nutritious meat at home. The membership also helps Grutto plan better with farmers and use the whole animal, and that price advantage is passed back to the customer. Membership meat is delivered frozen, whenever and however often it suits you. ## Key pages - [Home](https://www.grutto.com/nl): Grutto homepage. - [Onze missie](https://www.grutto.com/nl/onze-missie): Grutto's mission — organic and regenerative farming, animal welfare and full traceability. - [Onze boeren](https://www.grutto.com/nl/onze-boeren): The farms and nature reserves Grutto sources its meat from. - [Natuurvlees](https://www.grutto.com/nl/natuurvlees): Meat from animals that graze freely in Dutch nature reserves. - [Vragen (FAQ)](https://www.grutto.com/nl/vragen): Answers on delivery, traceability, organic certification, membership and sourcing. - [Contact](https://www.grutto.com/nl/shop/contact/): Contact form, plus Grutto's email address and phone number.
